The name Teva (pronounced Teh'Vah) comes from the Hebrew and means "nature".

Mark Thatcher, the inventor of the original model "terra" was rafting guide on the Colorado River. He has a passion intense nature, especially the Grand Canyon. Precisely for these weather conditions and terrain variety it creates in 1982 the first sport sandal Teva. He gives her the name she bears to this day, which means "nature" in Hebrew. In 1984, Teva is built into the new structure "Deckers Outdoor Corporation".
